Instagram Testing Video Posts to Reels Conversion Feature

Meta-owned photo-sharing platform Instagram has confirmed that it is currently testing a feature that automatically converts video posts into Reels. This change, aimed at simplifying the video experience on the app, is being trialed with select users globally.

Streamlining Video Experience

According to TechCrunch, a spokesperson from Meta stated that the feature is part of Instagram’s initiative to streamline and enhance the video experience. By seamlessly converting video posts into Reels, Instagram aims to provide users with a more straightforward and cohesive video-sharing platform.

How the Feature Works

Users participating in the test will receive an in-app notification informing them that their video posts will now be shared as Reels. This notification, as depicted in a screenshot shared by social media consultant Matt Navarra on Twitter, outlines that if a user’s account is public, their Reels can be discovered by anyone. Additionally, others can use the original audio from these Reels to create their own.

Privacy Settings

For users with private accounts, their Reels will only be visible to their followers. The notification further explains that once a Reel is posted, it can be remixed by anyone if the account is public. However, users have the option to prevent others from remixing their Reels by adjusting settings in their account preferences.

Testing Phase

As of now, this feature is in the testing phase and is being rolled out to a limited number of users. Instagram is evaluating user feedback and monitoring the performance of the feature before considering a wider release.

With Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance its platform and provide users with innovative tools for content creation and sharing, the integration of video posts into Reels reflects the platform’s commitment to evolving its offerings to meet user needs and preferences.
